This unusual Philodendron was only discovered in 2005 near the Rio Nangaritza in Southern Ecuador. According to Dr Croat, this species is “yet unpublished due to the lack of adequate type specimens.” The river where this species was discovered is close to the border of Peru and it appears to be exclusive in that valley. This makes Philodendron nangaritense rare in the World.
